Introduction
The WASC Review Team identified three priorities for this summer. In this training, we address priority 3: Teacher Enhancement/Development.
This is expected to be the first of several trainings intended to build the capacity of team members so that they can tackle the issue of teacher enhancement/development.
Teacher Enhancement/Development is part of the professional development field. There are many initiatives and efforts within Palau at this time. Team members need to be aware of what the field is, what the various moving parts are, and what is happening in Palau.
Dr. Sinton Soalablai, with his extensive background in education and his knowledge of professional development in the Palau context, was invited to give the team members an introduction to this field and what MSS needs to know.
Agenda: Improving Teacher and Student Performance with Dr. Sinton Soalablai
- Opening Prayer - Teacher Raymond Yutis
- Welcome - Vice Principal Walker Umetaro
- Intro of Speaker - Teacher Edwel Ongrung
- Presentation - Dr. Sinton Soalablai
- Closing - Teacher Susan Labsang
- Closing Prayer - Teacher Sharon D. Sato
Dr. Soalablai gave a very informative presentation, just right for where MSS is right now. Right now MSS recognizes the need for teacher enhancement policy. But the concept of professional development, as a field with policy and frameworks to be worked on and partnerships and opportunities to be deliberately established, requires an introduction and initial discussion.
Slides from Dr. Soalablai's presentation are below.
